A "low-key alternative" in "trendy" TriBeCa, this timeworn tavern is home base for "neighborhood" types and those "pretending" they are ("nobody will point out that you actually live in Astoria"); while the "historic" front bar area has lots of "charm", it's generally a "hole-in-the-wall" and "not a place to impress a date."
